Vic: Melbourne toddler thrown onto the floor by intruder

MELBOURNE, Dec 18 AAP - A toddler was thrown to the floor after the child's father
disturbed what may have been an attempted abduction at a Melbourne home.

The one-year-old girl as not hurt in the incident at the Thomas Street house in Laverton
about 11.40am (AEDT) yesterday.

The child's father was in the bathroom of the family home when he heard a noise from
the loungeroom and went to investigate, a police spokeswoman said.

He rushed from the bathroom into the loungeroom to find a stranger holding his little daughter.

The man threw the toddler onto the floor, and a brief scuffle broke out between the
father and the intruder.

The father grabbed a meat cleaver from the kitchen and chased the intruder out, the
spokeswoman said.

The intruder then ran out of the house through the garage and into a waiting car, described
as a silver Hyundai hatch.

The toddler was taken to hospital but was found to be uninjured.

The intruder is described as being of Asian appearance.

Police are still investigating.
