-Fusion-io launches trading after successful IPO
INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2011 M2 COMMUNICATIONS
9 June 2011 - Fusion-io (NYSE:FIO), the US provider of flash- based data storage platforms, will make its trading debut on the New York Stock Exchange today after an initial public offering (IPO) that had investors flocking to snatch shares, the Financial Times reported.
Despite its loss-making record, Fusion-io was able to price its shares at above-range USD19 apiece, offering further proof that appetite for tech stocks remains hearty. The company had already lifted the indicative range to USD16-18 from USD13-15.
The IPO raised USD233m, giving Fusion-io a valuation of USD1.48bn.
The group's revenues have ballooned in the last two years but profitability has so far remained out of reach. In 2010, Fusion- io's sales brought in USD36.2m, over three times the amount collected in 2009. Still, the year ended with net losses of USD31m.

Kantar Media: U.S. Advertising Expenditures Increased 6.5 Percent in 2010
Type: News
Total advertising expenditures increased 6.5 percent in 2010 and finished the year at $131.1 billion, according to data released by Kantar Media, a provider of strategic advertising and marketing information.
Kantar Media further noted that ad spending during the fourth quarter of 2010 was up 7.0 percent versus last year, propelled by the long-tail of small advertisers outside the Top 1000.
"The feel good headline is the ad economy grew by 6.5 percent in 2010," said Jon Swallen, SVP Research at Kantar Media North America. "The more comprehensive assessment is that increased spending has not benefitted all sectors equally. While television media have recouped their losses from the 2009 advertising downturn, several other large segments are still 15 to 20 percent below their 2008 peaks."
TV ad spending remained robust through year end. Spot TV expenditures jumped 24.2 percent in 2010 due to the biennial surge in political advertising, a revived automotive category and a pronounced budget allocation shift among retail bank advertisers. Spanish Language TV spending rose 10.7 percent, assisted by the World Cup event. Higher sell out levels helped lift Cable TV expenditures by 9.8 percent and healthy demand from CPG marketers and credit card companies pushed Network TV spending ahead by 5.3 percent.
Internet display advertising increased 9.9 percent compared to the prior year, the second largest growth rate among media sectors. Outdoor advertising was close behind with a gain of 9.6 percent.
Improvements in Radio advertising were tilted towards local markets. National Spot Radio brought in 18.6 percent more ad dollars versus 2009 and Local Radio achieved a 4.9 percent increase. For each of these, higher spending was driven by the financial service, media and auto dealer categories.
Growth rates for print media trailed the overall ad market. Expenditures in Consumer Magazines were up a modest 3.3 percent while National Newspapers rose 2.7 percent, primarily due to publishing expansion at the Wall Street Journal. Ad spending in Local Newspapers sank 4.6 percent versus a year ago despite a small uptick in the volume of space sold. Local Newspaper spending has now declined for 21 consecutive quarters.

Fed: Nelson vows to block tax increases
AAP General News (Australia)
08-27-2008
Fed: Nelson vows to block tax increases
CANBERRA, Aug 27 AAP - Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson has vowed to continue to block
any government plans to increase taxes.
But he denies the coalition is deliberately blocking the Rudd government's budget.
The opposition has pledged to block government bills to increase the tax on ready-to-drink
alcoholic beverages, a new excise on condensate, and changes to the Medicare levy surcharge
threshold and commonwealth seniors' health card.
Without coalition backing for its laws, the government needs to turn to the seven balance
of power senators - the Australian Greens, independent Nick Xenophon and Family First's
Steve Fielding - to get its draft laws through the Senate.
Dr Nelson said the coalition would stand firm in opposing any bills which carried tax increases.
"We're not blocking the budget," he told ABC Radio today.
"What we are doing is we're opposing tax increases.
"Which one of these did Mr Rudd tell us he was going to do before the election? In
other words, he didn't go to the election saying he would increase taxes.
"Australians are worse off today than they were a year ago and, from our point of view,
the last thing the economy actually needs at the moment is tax increases."
The coalition has formally agreed to oppose Labor's $2.5 billion plan to scrap a tax
exemption on condensate, a light crude oil extracted from natural gas.
Dr Nelson said the measure would push up domestic gas prices in Western Australia.
"This is a drive-by tax shooting," he said.
"It beggars belief that you can take $2.5 billion off the bottom line of a company
like Woodside and not have that passed onto Australians in other ways."

Fed: Family honour Japanese sailors lost on midget sub
SYDNEY, Aug 6 AAP - The younger brother of one of the Japanese sailors who died when
their M24 midget submarine was lost off Sydney during World War II says he feels honoured
to attend today's memorial service.
The submarine disappeared after an attack on Sydney Harbour in 1942 and was found late
last year by a group of amateur divers about five kilometres off Sydney's northern beaches.
Kazutomo Ban, 74, the younger brother of Sub-Lieutenant Katsuhisa Ban, the commander
and navigator of the midget sub, said he was touched by the service.
"I am very honoured to know that the Australian people remember him even today," he said.
Mr Ban was one of 19 relatives of the two Japanese submariners who gathered alongside
dignitaries from Australia and Japan at Sydney's Garden Island naval base for the memorial
service.
Senior Chaplain Stuart Hall led the service, which consisted of prayers for the dead
men and prayers for peace.
"In this time of peace, we remember those who continue to mourn their loss and especially
the men and women who worthily served their country in pursuit of peace," Chaplain Hall
said.
The ceremony included a parade by 150 members of the Japanese Maritime Self Defence
Force Training Squadron and the laying of wreaths.

Vic: Billions of litres of water wasted
The BRACKS government's been accused of misleading Victorians about the amount of water
it recycles .. with billions of litres dumped into Port Phillip Bay each year.
The Sunday Age reports former Melbourne Water general manager BILL FORRESTER says the
government's indulging in a scandalous con job .. misleading the public's about how much
water's being recycled.
The paper says the last Melbourne Water annual report says 11.3 per cent of Melbourne's
waste water was recycled in 2004-05.
But 94.7 per cent of that water is class C effluent .. which has been recycled at water-treatment
plants .. and it flows out to sea or onto Melbourne Water land at Werribee.
Mr FORRESTER says he was in charge when the BRACKS government decided to inflate the
existing percentage of recycled water by including the internal recycled water.
Victorian Water Minister JOHN THWAITES denies the figures are misleading .. and says
the state's on track to meet its 2020 recycling target.
Mr FORRESTER left Melbourne Water amicably less than 18 months ago.

NSW: Search expected to resume for missing partygoer
SYDNEY, April 20 AAP - The search for a Queensland woman last seen at an Easter long
weekend party in northern NSW is expected to resume today.
Daneeka Nixon, 25, of Burleigh Heads, has not been seen since leaving a rave party
on a property at The Channon, near Lismore, on Sunday night.
A group of up to 200 people had been partying for at least 24 hours before Ms Nixon
left the property in a "disorientated state", police said.
Her mobile and purse were found in her car, which was located parked on the property
by her friends on Monday.
Police officers, State Emergency Service (SES) workers, PolAir, and the police rescue
squad searched the property's dense bushland for a second day yesterday without success.
The search was expected to resume today, a police spokesman said.
"I believe they will be back in the area, covering any spots that they are yet to go
to, or they might go back to an area they've already been over," he said.
Ms Nixon arrived at the party at 3pm on Saturday and was last seen by friends on Sunday
about 8pm.
She was last seen walking along the driveway to the premises, which are positioned
on the side of a mountain, police said.
They said rugged bushland in the area was making the search difficult.
Ms Nixon is described as being of white/European appearance and about 165cm to 170cm
tall with a medium build, long straight black hair and hazel eyes.
